#  Biography 

 



 Welcome!

 I am a professor at Harvard University. My research interests include law, political economy, race and ethnic politics, and statistical methods. My research has been published in journals such as the *Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences*, the *American Political Science Review*, the *American Journal of Political Science*, and *The Journal of Politics*, and has been covered by the *New York Times*, the *Washington Post*, *The Economist*, National Public Radio, and other outlets.

 I am currently working on a book on the relationship between Supreme Court ruligns and public opinion. My previous book, [The Judicial Tug of War: How Lawyers, Politicians, and Ideological Incentives Shape the American Judiciary](https://www.cambridge.org/core/books/judicial-tug-of-war/668C79835CDA6839FB21303F10D98C23) (with Adam Bonica), is available from [Cambridge University Press](https://www.cambridge.org/us/academic/subjects/politics-international-relations). My first book, [Deep Roots: How Slavery Still Shapes Southern Politics](https://press.princeton.edu/titles/11282.html), is available from [Princeton University Press](https://press.princeton.edu/) and won the 2019 William H. Riker Book Award for best book published in political economy.
